Intel used to power every PC. Now they’re at risk of a $90B buyout.

Founded in 1968, Intel commercialized the CPU (central processing unit), the "brain" behind computers.

The CPU put Intel at the heart of the personal computer industry.

Throughout the 90s, Intel’s iconic "Intel Inside" campaign influenced the PC era.

For years, Intel supplied Apple with the processors that powered its Mac computers, making Apple one of its most high-profile customers.

But, Intel’s failure to innovate in the 2000s led Apple to begin exploring alternatives.

By the 2010s, Apple was heavily investing in R&D to develop its own silicon, designing chips specifically optimized for its products, from iPhones to iPads and Macs.

In 2020, Apple officially launched its M1 chip, marking the end of its reliance on Intel.
